My last prompt call went quickly and smoothly; so much so that I let it run an extra week and change. I’ve finished another big project, which will make its way online as I can work out the best way to present it.

For now, though, it’s time for another prompt call! I’m trying to streamline things by running them through this site, where I can keep a page hierarchy of sorts, and which also brings people right to the important bits. This will be a test run of the new system, but if all goes well I may keep it up for future calls.

The theme:

This time around, the theme is: resolution. That could be a resolution to do something, or the resolution of a story, or of a problem. So long as your prompt has something to do with resolve or resolution, and fits my other guidelines, it’s fair game!

The schedule:

This call will tentatively run two weeks from today. The target cutoff is 11 March, 2014 at 5 PM ADT. (DST is due to start the Sunday before in Canada. Mind your clocks if you observe the US DST dates!)

Update: That date-and-time has now passed and prompts are now closed. Thanks!

The prompts:

Please comment to this page with your prompts. Registration is not required, and email address will not be publicly displayed. If you wish to make a donation, A) thank you in advance, B) please send a PayPal payment to shurhaian@gmail.com referencing “QuickFic #13” or “QF13” or something similarly recognizable, and be sure there’s some means to tie your donation to your payment. Commenting with the same email address you use on PayPal is an easy way to make that happen.

The result:

  • “The finish that nobody expected”: “Priority Override” (589 words, no content warnings)
  • “He’s resolved to finish what must be done, but doing so will end him, as well”: “Unforeseen Complications” (1552 words, no content warnings)
  • “Girding one’s loins and getting on with it”: “The Godswatch Ascent” (1660 words, no content warnings)
  • “Solving a conflict without resorting to violence”: “The Feud That Could Have Been” (1735 words, no content warnings)
  • “Keeping promises made too lightly”: “Options Deferred” (1759 words, no content warnings)
  • “The finish that nobody expected”/”The god(dess) that was reborn”: “Succession of the Red Lady” (1076 words, no content warnings)
  • “Surprise, surprise, your princess is finally on this castle”: “Jailbreak (NSFW, M/M gryphons, quadrupeds, size difference; 13437 words)

Thanks!

Thanks for reading, for prompting if you do, and for donating if you do that!

    Resolution or renewal?

Resolution: the finish that nobody expected.

Renewal: The god(dess) who was reborn.

    A New Year’s resolution.

Girding one’s loins and getting on with it.

Resolution: after the climactic battle, heroes need to take time to treat their psychological injuries as well as the physical ones, to avoid burnout.

Resolve: what fuels your efforts to do things that other people insist you are unable to do.

Resolution: solving a conflict without resorting to violence.

Since your comment was in the approval queue, I just wanted to confirm that I’ve received it. I hope to work on writing day by day, work permitting.

I made an oops when writing up the community posts; accidentally left a reference to the last call’s theme in. “Resolution” is indeed the correct one. Sorry about that, and thanks for being thorough.

There’s a piece written for you so far, here. I’ve received a generous donation so more will follow.

    – Surprise, surprise, your princess is finally on this castle

    – A mathematician’s child solving the problem their patent puzzled over much of their life

    – A generation ship landing

Bad things happen, and only one member of the group can get help – if zie can make it there

Working up the courage to pop a question

    Keeping promises made too lightly

Receiving a letter in the mail (lab results, acceptance/rejection letter, etc)

    “It will be alright.”

Here’s a piece for you, hope it meets your satisfaction!

    Unforeseen Complications

Apologies for the time it’s taken, but here’s a piece for you: The Godswatch Ascent (no content warnings)

So I thought of this one, got the concept fleshed out in my head, started on it… then it occurred to me that I think you actually were the prompter for the one it wound up being a sequel to. Hurrah for continuity!

Anyway, here you are: “The Feud That Could Have Been” (1735 words, no content warnings)

I’d meant to post this yesterday but things have been a bit hectic. Sorry!

Anyway, here’s the balance of the work for you. Since I slipped up with advertising the theme, I tried to make one that satisfied both options at once.

    Here it is!
